Chico's Roquefort supper

Chico’s mix of Healing, Chemotherapy and natural remedies proved to work well as the specialist took a cell sample and couldn’t find any obvious cancer cell activity!

The vet was happy to gradually reduce and then stop the Chemotherapy treatment in October 2014 we were all very pleased with the little chap.

As with people, Chico’s (hair) had changed quite dramatically during the treatment; he was now speckled brown and white with many speckles on his face, I thought it looked quite distinguished.

I continued to see Chico each month or 6 weeks for a while. His appetite slowly reverted to the old Chico fuss pot, testing Harry’s patience to the full with tasty temptations from Roquefort cheese to freshly cooked beef! I’m sure Chico was doing it just to see how far Harry would go, he would always eat when he was hungry enough and never lost any weight.

Tazz dog

Dear Tazz became weak on Sunday, his legs were struggling to lift him and he seemed happy to stay in his bed.

I saw him on Tuesday; his Chi (energy) was very weak, Sheila and I were in agreement that Tazz had decided it was time to move on to the next life. He was not in any distress or pain, just weak. As with all owners, I suggested Sheila told Tazz that it was okay for him to go, she would miss him but she would be all right. This often gives the animal or person permission to let go..... seems she had already done so!

Tazz passed away quietly on Wednesday from old age. It was a privilege to have known both Tazz and his family.

Chico the little dog with a big personality

Chico took the healing well, he had a couple of restless moments where he was not sure of the strange but nice energies going through him but once I had ‘The Look’ I knew he would be content to relax for the rest of the healing.

By the time I met the charismatic Chico he had started on a new chemotherapy, the possibility of an operation had been dismissed but I am sure Chico had no idea he was supposed to be ill.
The healing certainly was going in well and was needed, I had my doubts that he would sleep after the healing as most animals do and people for that matter: he was such a whirlwind with a big voice. Apparently he did chill out once he had seen me off the premises.

I continued to see Chico every two weeks for the next couple of months, during which he also saw Richard Allport, the homoeopathic vet I work alongside, who prescribed some natural remedies.
He was gaining in strength each time I saw him though an underling stomach upset continued, possibly due to the steroid and or chemo treatment.

He was soon coming to see me at The Natural Medicine Centre in Potters Bar as his immune system rallied; Tripping along the floor of the practice in his harness, often ahead of me into my small room. As long as he was close enough to his dad and often on a chair between us then he was happy to settle down for his healing. He soon told us when he was ready to go home with his big voice!

Jack Russell Chico meets Helen.

Chico was diagnosed with lymphoma in March 2014 and started a course of Chemotherapy along with steroids.
This worked well to start with and the most obvious lymph node affected reduced in size. The side effects were minimal apart from his ever increasing hunger from the steroids.

Then Chico’s blood count was effected quite dramatically so it was decided to stop the chemotherapy; the lymph node did not reduce any further so Chico went on a journey to see a specialist.
He was put on a different chemotherapy which was administered every 3 weeks.

On one of Chico’s walks in London’s Regents Park, after two new treatments of chemotherapy and having nauseous after effects, Chico’s owner, Harry, told a fellow dog walker his story. The lady listened with interest and sadness then suggested he take Chico to see a healer called Helen.

Within a week I was heading into town to meet Chico and Harry. Chico’s immune system was very weak and Harry was worried he may pick up a bug if he were to travel to see me in Potters Bar.

I was met by a very vocal Chico at the door who proceeded to let me know he was there for some minutes, ‘well, not a lot wrong with his attitude then’ I thought! He certainly had a lot of fight in him.. a good sign. He eventually became quiet once I was invited to sit down and offered a cup of tea.
Chico kept his distance and an eye on me as I chatted to Harry about his situation.

‘Well then let’s give the little chap some healing shall we?’ I said, casting my gaze in Chico’s direction.
‘He is not very good with strangers’ Harry said ‘he is not likely to come to you.’
With that, Chico sprang to his feet from his resting place, ran over and jumped onto the sofa next to me where he settled down! To the surprise and delight of Harry.

Not good weather for ducky!

I visited Tazz dog yesterday; he is doing well, it seems the caner lump has not increased in size at all from the start of all his holistic treatment which is wonderful news.

As with most of the animal kingdom in the south of England (including Ducky), he is very fed up with this constant rainfall. It is upsetting his walking routine and you know how oldies like routine! His aging bones are getting a bit weary as they would at his age so getting up and down from his comfy bed is more of a struggle for him. He is happy to carry on and by no means ready to go on to his next life just yet.

Poor Ducky’s house was flooded in the night, he was most indignant with it all, protesting at the top of his quack. He had to move home to higher ground.

He is in desperate need of a mate yet none of the other ducks on the pond are interested, maybe because he was hand reared by Jessica. The problem is he has bonded with Jessica, pulling at her legs as he follows her around the yard, if she dares to stop and talk to anyone he has a quackey fit, pecking and protesting until all her attention is back with him.
We may have a girly for him in the spring but that seems such a long way off right now.
