Clearing spirits: Feeling right at home

I asked Clifford if he was happy with Tom’s promise to look after the house; ‘yes’ he said ‘Tom is an honest man, I trust him to keep his word.’ ‘So is there something else you wish to relay?’ I asked him, wondering why he was still around. ‘The house needs to have children playing in it, it was intended for children, I would like it to go to a family.’ Clifford replied.

I put Tom in the picture and he explained with a smile on his face that he had a lady with two young children coming to look at it that week. Tom said he would try his best to let it go to a family. This was enough for Clifford, he thanked us both in the gentlemanly way that befitted him and asked Tom one last question: ‘May I return now and then to see how they are getting on?’ ‘Of course’ Tom replied. With that Clifford faded away, out of my vision, hearing and awareness.... He was gone.

Several weeks later I heard from Tom that the lady they spoke of did take the house. Once she had settled in she commented to Tom on how she had originally been unsure of the move but the atmosphere of the house was so lovely the family feel right at home there.

House clearing: Smoke & Mirrors

Clifford’s wife fell very ill, she stayed at home and they made the back bedroom into her nursing room when she was bed-bound.
Clifford did most of her caring with a little help and support from a district nurse. She passed as peacefully as she could in the bedroom of their lovely home.

Clifford went on for a few more years without her but always knew they would be together again; and they are. Though it was Clifford that often returned to the house alone. He was not there all of the time, just when he thought he could get his messages across.

‘This home was intended for a family, to have children in it.’ Clifford said time and again.

He told me how the landing light should be left on so no one fell down the stairs, of how the electrics in the house should be checked out, that sockets needed to be moved up the wall. He was obsessed with having a smoke alarm, with the kitchen being child friendly, the windows being secure... He was like a health and safety spirit ensuring the next family were safe and he was not going to let up until he could be sure it was done!

I understood and suggested we talk to the gentleman owner downstairs about his concerns; just at this point the smoke alarm on the landing let forth it’s scream as the scented smoke from the jostick became too much for it.

Spirit Cleaning: Family house with no children

I explained the situation to Tom and asked him if he would ask the ladies to refrain from the chanting, he trotted downstairs and the chanting ceased. I sat on the edge of a single bed waiting for the gentleman spirit to return, it did not take long before I was introducing myself to an elderly gentleman of ‘cuddly’ proportion, dressed in casual trousers, shirt and well loved and worn jacket that was very comfortable being left open. He had fair skin and very little hair as you would expect from a man of his years.

Once I was introduced to Clifford he immediately picked up on all the questions I had racing through my mind; why are you still here? What were your circumstances when you were alive? Did you live in this house? Were you alone?

Clifford’s answers came across to me as images, expressions, feelings and words: ‘We were very lucky to be moved up here after the war, they wanted to fill these houses with new families, start a new community away from the city.’ I could see he was talking about himself and his wife, they were newly-weds intending to start a family but the family never came, it seems they could not have the children they so desperately wished for, instead living out their lives in the family house alone.

They made some friends in the area, ‘some you could call good and others that were just around’ he said. The couple grew ever closer and loving through their childless lives.

Still I was none the wiser for his apparent reluctance to leave his home.

Spirit cleaning: Like a dog with a scent.

I’m afraid I tend to be rather abrupt once I am aware of a spirit I have been searching for; rather like a dog catching a scent and following it!

Apologising to Tom I turned my back to him mid sentence and climbed the stairs. I had already asked Tom’s permission to wander in and out of any room; the house had been empty for some time so I was not going to stumble across anyone’s underwear.

As I reached the landing I slowly walked into the first bedroom: the male spirit was not as strong there, the second bedroom had the same effect. Entering the smaller back bedroom was a completely different experience; I could feel the gentleman’s energy three fold, this was where I was to settle and chat to the spirit. Tom was close behind me; so I explained my feelings as I went.

I had the spirit’s complete attention, about to ask him some questions when he was drawn away from me with fascination for the chanting that had just started downstairs; The two ladies had made themselves at home in the lounge and were repeating a lovely Indian chant which had an irresistible allure to our gentleman spirit. I could not help but chuckle to myself, sat on the bed having been abandoned.
