The Look

'The Look' is the wonderful moment of connection between myself and the animal I am giving healing to.

Generally an initial visit to Helen The Healer is fraught with questions from the animal; Where am I going, is it the vet? Am I going to be left there? Will it hurt? Am I going to have any needles or thermometers put in nasty places? All these questions and more race through the poor animal’s mind so it is no wonder they are suspicious of me at first.

I will have a chat with the owner first whilst the animal either, has a good sniff around the room trying to figure out its purpose, or snuggles in as close as possible to his owner’s legs for protection.

Then the dancing starts: I join the animal on the floor and send him healing whilst trying to gain his trust, having managed to place my hand on him I’ll start to put calm energies through. He will stay still for a minute or two, enjoying the feeling then come to his senses with a jolt realising it is a weird feeling he has never felt before so instinct will kick in; instinct to move away from the unknown. He will walk away from me, but not so far that I cannot follow, where he will settle back down again, almost taunting me to do it again.
I crawl across the floor to where he is settled and we start the healing again.

This can go on for three or four times before he gives me ‘The Look’; No matter which way he is looking he will swiftly and precisely turn his head to look me straight in the eyes with a look that says ‘Is that you doing that?’ I smile and calmly say out loud ‘Yes that’s me.’ Where he will be satisfied to then settle completely on the floor to receive the rest of the lovely energy pulsing through his body, often so relaxed he will fall asleep.

Spirit's nativity play

I turned up at Spirit’s home early to give him some pre-healing, he was bright as a button, standing on his stable step and chatting away with his popping lips. Jessica was on edge not knowing what the x-rays will reveal so I gave her some healing too.

Next to arrive was Spirits dear friend and farrier John, he really has taken a shine to the biting trick pony, and Spirit to him. Then came the new farrier Paul, the two new each other and exchanged greetings as they stood looking at the patient.

The Vet Gary, arrived with his helper and all the x-ray equipment. At this point Spirit decided to make a break for it and headed for the open stable door only to amazingly have his chest and front end forcibly lifted from the ground and manoeuvred back into the box by Gary the vet; that is some technique he has for a seemingly small man.

I nominated myself as tea lady and retreated to make a brew. On my return Spirit was practically being held up by Jessica having had a sedative from Gary, he was so chilled he would have been very happy to just curl up on the stable floor to have a snooze.

I think he was now the coolest creature at this Christmas nativity about to be played out!

Big day for Spirit and Jessica!

Dear Spirirt has had his ups and downs over the last few years where his laminitis is concerned. He has been slow, deciding not to go to the field for a day or two then he bounces back, rolling around the floor, biting and bucking.

With laminitics the change of season always seems to bring a bad spell and true to form this very late autumn has him walking slowly again.

His marvellous vet knows how much spirit Spirit has and as long as he is not in pain he will continue to keep him going. To this end he suggested Jessica look at trying a new shoe that has a soft support, much like wearing gel innersoles in your dancing shoes ladies!

Jessica will try anything to make Spirit more comfortable so arranged a day for the vet and his farrier to fit the new dancing shoes. More x-rays would have to be taken so the new farrier could see how far to cut his little feet back; if he were to cut too far Spirit may not return from this one!
He would have to be sedated enough to stop him protesting and biting them all for a couple of hours.

Jessica asked if I and his usual farrier would come along on the day for some support for them, we both agreed with no hesitation.

So the big day was set, Jessica was feeling very anxious whilst Spirit was oblivious to the impending procedure.
